A Visit to the Bomberos
By![]()
All children seem to be fascinated by fire fighters and our kids at Semillas de Amor are no different. We told the kids a week before the field trip that were had planned a visit to the fire fighters in Antigua and that everyone had to be on their best behavior the entire week, and they were.
Fire fighters in developing countries do not have access to the equipment that first world countries have. And these developing country fire fighters are dependent on donations of used and outdated equipment from first world countries to do their jobs. I was impressed by the commitment of our fire fighters and the amount of time they spent with our kids. All the kids and the adults got to dress up in the fire fighter’s gear. We had so much fun.
After our time with the fire fighters we came back to my house, rested up a bit and then took a picnic lunch, with the dogs, and headed out to the coffee farm to relax under the coffee shade trees and have lunch. We had a wonderful day. Lots of laughter and joy. The way children’s lives should be.
Children who are raised in institutions generally do not have the opportunity to do the “normal” kinds of things kids do with their families. At Semillas de Amor we are making a a huge effort to make sure that our kids are out and about every Friday on field trips. Yes, it adds a lot to the cost of running our home but we work hard to keep the costs down and to find places we can go that are either inexpensive or don’t charge any fee. We want our kids to thrive with us, not just survive.
Please help us keep our kids thriving, our kids laughing and full of joy by making a donation today. Just click DONATE to go to our donation page.
Thank you for thinking of our kids. They are well worth every dime that is spent on them.
