What The Kids Have Been Up To!
ByThe last few months have been busy. Life is busy with 34 children but at Semillas de Amor we keep our kids extra busy and work
as hard as we can to make sure our children have a family life. To avoid the institutionalization of children it is important for children to have a sense of family, have lots of stimulation and socialization and be loved by the people who care for them on a day to day basis.
Our Fall started out with a big Halloween celebration, click HERE to see a photo video show of our day, then a huge fundraiser in Northern California that brought in donations to help care for a children for several months and sponsors who will be their padrinos and/or madrinas (godparents) while the children grow. Click HERE for photos and other information on our fundraiser. Late October and early November is kite season in Guatemala. The kids made their own kites and then took them to the Hill of the Cross in Antigua to fly them.
Gaby had a piano recital that many of the kids attended. Gaby did an amazing job and this gave the kids an opportunity to watch music being played and for me to see who has interest in learning to play an instrument. The last few months we have had children in ballet and computer classes in Antigua. The kids love both classes. The girls ages 4-10 are in ballet and the boys and girls 6-10 are in computer classes. We hope to continue both computer and dance classes in January. This week the girls will have their ballet recital, The Lion King, which is on the same day Gaby and Daisy have their Christmas Orchestra Recital. It will be a busy day for all of us. And last but not least with the holiday season upon us we have decided to build our first very large nativity scene with help from everyone. The Christmas market has just opened at the local marketplace and is full of wonderful goodies to fill our nativity scene with. Keep an eye out for recital photos and our holiday photos. This year a generous family donated enough money for our kids and the staff to have a delicious Christmas Eve turkey dinner. This is our first big, fancy and delicious Christmas Eve dinner for the kids.
Without your help, your generosity and kindness we would not be able to do any of these things for our kids.
Thank you with all our hearts!
