The future of adoptions in Guatemala is uncertain and tenuous. As of January 1, 2008, the Central Authority (CNA) is responsible for initiating and conducting all Guatemalan adoptions, both domestic and international.

51 children currently reside and are cared for at Semillas de Amor. 35 of these children are waiting to be united with their adoptive families under the former notary-run adoption process. 16 children, some of whom have families waiting for them, some of whom still await a family, will be processed through the Central Authority.

Semillas de Amor has begun the registration process with the Central Authority and aspires to one-day find loving homes for all of its residents. It is our hope that the CNA will soon develop the infrastructure to assist us in our efforts. Until that time, with the government’s advocacy and cooperation, Semillas de Amor will continue to nurture and provide for these children.

With income from adoptions halted and no government funding available, Semillas de Amor is reliant upon the generosity and love of those who care about the future of the children.
