Sad Goodbyes and Happy New Beginnings
Posted by: | CommentsFriday Sonia and Santos left for their forever home. Many of you who read this blog know Sonia and Santos. Sonia and Santos have lived at Semillas de Amor for four years and two months. They are a part of our family and so to say goodbye, knowing we will most likely never meet up again, is heartbreaking. Our oldest kids are touched most deeply. Gaby, Daisy, Marta, Jeferson all study together and are quite the group. My heart broke for all of them as they knew the time was getting very close to say goodbye. The day before Sonia and Santos left, the big kids went off to the movies in Guate and then to my house for pizza and an overnight. I know that all of us treasured those last few hours we all had together. I had a talk with Gaby right before Sonia and Santos left, she was feeling so sad, and told her that when we really love someone, there are times that we need to be able to love them enough to let them go. All kids deserve a loving family and Sonia and Santos are no different. They deserve opportunities, love, education and everything a loving family offers. Knowing that makes it easier but the sadness, the loss is still with us.
We love you Sonia and Santos. Have a wonderful life!!!
Casa Amarilla
Posted by: | CommentsWednesday our very stark white children’s home got a new coat of yellow paint! A group of excellent volunteer painters from the States began painting in the morning and had half of house painted by the time they left in the late afternoon. I will post more next week with new photos of the entire home painted and an appropriate thank you to our volunteer group and everyone involved in getting our home painted.. I was just so excited for everyone to see our pretty yellow home (which was suppose to be yellow wheat but looks more like yellow lemon). With the rainy season fast approaching we needed to get the outside painted now or wait until next year.
A Day at the Children’s Village
Posted by: | CommentsFriday was a “busy” day for the big kids at the children’s village. I had promised the kids we would go to the animal (livestock) market on Friday in Chimaltenango. Whoa, I had no idea what I had bargained for. Buying the animals was serious business, it was packed and nobody took us, a bunch of kids, a few Guatemalans and a few foreigners terribly seriously. I was grateful they did not take us seriously because I have no doubt I would have come back with some livestock of our own. The last thing we need now, as we struggle to feed the kids, is a few more mouths to feed.
After a day of livestock shopping the kids ran through the sprinklers and just had s wonderful day hanging out on land.
We have had lots of quiet days at the children’s home lately and that is a very good thing. The quiet and beauty reminds me why I have hung onto the dream of the children’s village for such a long time. Time has its own rhythm at the children’s village. Nothing is terribly hurried. It is and will be a place of dreams for many children.
