Happy Halloween!!!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Despite UNICEF’s desire to keep children poor and suffering, shutting down adoptions in Guatemala and many other countries and keeping adopted children from their parents we aren’t going to let them bully our kids. Sixteen of our 32 children have adoptive families and should have been home with their families trick or treating but UNICEF made sure that did not happen. So, thank you to all of our donors, all of our kids had a wonderful Halloween party. We also celebrated our October birthdays. ¡Feliz Cumpleaños Luvia, Jeferson, Gaby and Victor Hugo!

After Halloween 2009 we asked families, who were not going to use their costumes again, to donate them to Semillas de Amor. We had some great donations as you can see by our well dressed kids. We hope to have another costume drive this year as well. Thank you to everyone who donated costumes last year.

Happy Halloween from Semillas de Amor and to UNICEF you have played a really mean trick on way too many children, SHAME ON YOU!

A Visit to the Bomberos

IMG_0062IMG_0010All children seem to be fascinated by fire fighters and our kids at Semillas de Amor are no different. We told the kids a week before the field trip that were had planned a visit to the fire fighters in Antigua and that everyone had to be on their best behavior the entire week, and they were.

Fire fighters in developing countries do not have access to the equipment that first world countries have. And these developing country fire fighters are dependent on donations of used and outdated equipment from first world countries to do their jobs. I was impressed by the commitment of our fire fighters and the amount of time they spent with our kids. All the kids and the adults got to dress up in the fire fighter’s gear. We had so much fun.  Read More→
