The Semillas Kids Play Santa on Christmas Eve
Posted by: | Comments
Christmas week was a busy, exciting and fun filled time for all the kids at Semillas de Amor. The kids were given two wonderful parties by our generous and thoughtful Guatemalan supporters! Thank you Moniquita and Eugenia! On Christmas Eve we had a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings, luncheon for all the kids and staff. What a wonderful full week.
However, we can’t forget about those children who have nothing that live near us. These kids pass our children’s home everyday carrying heavy loads of firewood on their backs. Little children carry even smaller children, mothers wheel their children in wheelbarrows full of wood. If the children are lucky they are on horseback. These children all suffer from chronic malnutrition, poor health all need dental care and none go to school.
So this Christmas Eve our children had the chance to give back. My personal belief is that giving feels just as good, if not better, than receiving. Our children are being taught to feel blessed and grateful for what they have in life and never forget about those that are less fortunate than they are. And, in Guatemala, it is not hard to find someone less fortunate than you.
Radio Classica 106.5FM Food Drive for Semillas de Amor!
Posted by: | CommentsRadio Classic 106.5FM and Tita Mendoza came through for Semillas de Amor for a second year in a row.
Last week our kids, with Luvia, went into Guatemala City three days. They had to be ready to be ON THE AIR at 7AM. The kids spoke to callers, sang songs and were interviewed by the radio talk show hosts. What a treat for our kids and quite an experience.
Saturday the radio station gave our kids a huge Christmas party and hundreds of Guatemalans brought food for the kids. Extreme poverty is so rampant in Guatemala and people still brought food. Some brought cart loads of food and others a bag of beans. It was wonderful for our children to see that the people in “their” country care about them. Families brought pizza for lunch and snacks and even the transportation of the kids to Guatemala City and the transportation of the food was donated.
