Mid-December several of our kids at Semillas de Amor were invited to be on the radio in Guatemala City. Tita Mendoza, actress, radio show host and adoptive mom to one of Semillas de Amor’s little girls made all the arrangements for the kids to be on her show, Radio Clasica 106.5. This was so exciting for all of us. Luvia was the spokesperson for Semillas de Amor and fielded the calls from lots of callers during the show. Luvia did an incredible job . The kids loved being on the radio. The kids were on the radio for two weeks, three mornings each week. At the end of the two weeks the Radio Classica threw a big party for our children, at the station, and people were invited to bring donations. We had asked from non perishable donations, such as rice, beans, sugar, oil. Considering the amount of poverty in Guatemala and the amount of need, people were so very, very generous. We have enough non perishable food for the next 6-9 months. Some of the highlights of the radio show was when Alvaro sang Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in perfect English and when Francisco was asked what he wanted for Christmas he asked for a bone for our dog Dooney. I listened to the kids on the radio and they were incredible, as was Luvia. I can’t tell you how proud I was of everyone and how grateful I am to Tita, Radio Clasica and all the families that donated. Just the experience of being on the radio was wonderful for the kids and for the children, for our Guatemalan staff to see the generosity of Guatemalan families was very powerful.
