The Program
Semillas de Amor provides a loving, nurturing family, learning, and community environment, enabling children to develop their individual talents to the maximum in order for them to be contributing members of their communities, country, and our world. These children are the caretakers of the values and ideals for future generations.
The mission of the Semillas de Amor Children’s Village is to provide care, high-level education, and solid futures for Guatemala’s at risk children. In addition to the school, the Children’s Village consists of a home for children who are unable to remain with their biological families.
The Children’s Home, located on 4 acres in Parramos, Guatemala, provides loving and nurturing care for children ages 0-12 years of age. Children receive age-appropriate education as well as many other learning opportunities including art and music lessons.
Guatemala is a country ravaged by a 36-year civil war and, as a result, does not have adequate social structures to provide children with what is necessary for them to develop into well-educated, healthy adults. Many families are so poor they cannot care and feed their children. On top of that, national institutions are full of neglected, orphaned and abandoned kids.
Because the development of children is intertwined with the society in which they live, and how well that society supports and sustains its families and individuals, we can conclude that it takes a village to raise a child.
